On June 26th, at the Villa Blanka Innsbruck, the 2009 awards of the German Friends of the Universities in Innsbruck were awarded. The winner of the Medical University is the student Anna Posod, who works in the Neonatal Neuroscience Research Group.
Wilhelm-Auerswald-Prize 2009 awarded to Dr. Karina Wegleiter
This year Dr. Karina Wegleiter is the award recipient of the the Wilhelm-Auerswald-Prize (first prize and the award for the best written work). The prize is donated yearly by the sanofi-aventis GmbH for the best doctoral thesis in human medicine in Austria.

Mehr und mehr zu früh geborene kleine Menschen überleben ihren zu frühen Start in das Leben. Dies ist möglich durch wesentliche Verbesserung der Medizin. Die Anzahl der überlebenden zu kleinen Kinder nimmt zu. Aber trotz der Verbesserung der Medizin gibt es noch ungelöste Probleme. Die Forschung zum Schutz des neugeborenen Gehirns ist damit eine der größten Herausforderungen in der Kinderheilkunde.
