GNPI 2010, Saarbrücken, Germany

The 36th annual meeting of the society for neonatology and pediatric intensive care will take place in Saarbrücken, Germany this year (17 to 19th of June) and the neonatal neuroscience Group is participating.

This year in Saarbrücken !

From 17th to 19th of June the annual meeting of the society for neonatology and pediatric intensive care medicine will take place and Gerald Schlager will present his work on G-CSF in an animal model of hypoxic ischemic brain injury.

Gerald Schlager has been working in the neonatal neuroscience group for almost 2 years and moved to Essen in 2009 together with Matthias Keller who was the former leader of the neonatal neuroscience group Innsbruck. Both of them are still an important part of our team and several projects are performed in close cooperation between the two research groups.

Gerald will present his project, that was performed in Innsbruck and topic of his diploma thesis. With this work he shows again that our group cannot confirm the neuroprotective properties of G-CSF in neonatal brain damage. In this study he focuses on neurobehavioral outcome and speculates that the exacerbation of brain injury by administration of substances in the acute phase (as performed in this model by use of G-CSF) indicates that pain and/or stress shortly after injury are important factors contributing to perinatal brain injury.
